Both of these rebellions are the after-effects of the Opium Wars in China.
The Taiping rebellion is between the Taiping Rebels and the Manchu government. It's like a peasant uprising which had an indirect influence upon the future Communism under Mao. Like almost every other rebellions and uprisings in history, this rebellion sprang from an economic crisis among the poor population; the government in the mid. 19th century became corrupted, and China had to pay war indemnity to western countries due to the Opium Wars; all these resulted in higher taxes upon the peasants since the rich landlords were able to effectively elude the tax collectors. This rebellion also weakened the Manchu, or the Chinese, government and China became even more dependent on the Western Powers.

The Boxer Rebellion was between Chinese Boxers and anti-foreign supporters agains the foreigners/Christian missionaries. These people detested the foreigners for China's economic subjugation to the West. The Rebellion ultimately ended the imperial, dynastic China and set the stage for a revolution establishing a short republic with internal chaos and outside imperialism.

    Hope this helps!
